On Nov. 13, Disney released its first trailer for Maleficent,NHL Canucks iPhone 5s Cases, the studios live-action twist on its 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty. The film stars Angelina Jolie in the title role, the sorceress who curses Princess Aurora with a deep sleep.
Maleficent promises a re-telling of the famous story, offering audiences the opportunity to learn the events that lead up to the curse. The film focuses on what leads Maleficent to become an iconic Disney villain.
The first teaser trailer for the movie introduces the relationship between Maleficent and Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning.
In a voiceover, Aurora says to an unseen Maleficent, I know who you are. You've been watching over me my whole life. I know you're there. Your shadow, it's been following me ever since I was small. Don't be afraid."
The scene then opens to a dark forest,NHL Coyotes iPhone 5 Cases, dark forests being something of a Disney specialty. Maleficent says shes not afraid. After Aurora urges the sorceress to reveal herself, Maleficent replies, Then youll be afraid.
Then trailer reveals the moment Disney fans have been waiting for since the remake was announced. Jolie is revealed as Maleficent, a femme fatale look that draws on the animated characters signature horns, pale complexion and smoldering stare.
The trailer also offers a number of other nice visual touches a spindle, a wall of thorn, that green glow of magic that hearkens back to Sleeping Beauty. The overall look and tone of the teaser suggests the movie will be a remake in the spirit of Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland and Sam Raimis Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Maleficent is directed by first-timer Robert Stromberg (production designer for Burtons Alice in Wonderland and Oz: the Great and Powerful) and written by Linda Woolverton (Burtons Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast.) and Paul Dini. The movie also stars Sharlto Copley,NHL Bruins iPhone 5s Cases, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.
Maleficent is slated for theatrical release May 30, 2014.
